Cherry Hill Child Support Lawyer

The Right Lawyer Can Help You Find a Solution

When determining the amount of child support, it is important to remember that child support is the right of the child, not the parents. It is critical that the child receives adequate financial support, no matter how the parents feel about each other. Working with an experienced, compassionate family law attorney can help everyone involved concentrate on the needs of the children rather than the problems between the parents.

At the law office of Jeffrey S. Karl PA, I represent parents in child custody and support cases. With 35 years of experience to draw upon, I am able to help parents find solutions to child support matters. If you would like to discuss your child support needs, please call my office at 856-324-4920. I offer a free phone consultation.

New Jersey Child Support Guidelines

The child support guidelines in New Jersey are based primarily on each parent's income and the number of overnight visits with the parent of alternate residence (non-primary custodian). Additional factors include the number of children the parents have together, as well as any children they have with other partners. The court may also require child support payments for specific needs, such as day care, health insurance and educational expenses.

You may request a review of your child support payments every three years, regardless of any changes to your financial situation. To modify or terminate child support, you must file papers with the court. There is no automatic emancipation when the child turns 18 or graduates from high school. You may request a specific termination date based on age or circumstance. The amount of child support can be reduced if a child goes away to college.
